"Why Grandma!  What big teeth you have"

Wolves hunt animals that are easy prey.   They are not stupid and don't take unnecessary risks.  They quite often hunt rabbits and squirrels, some go after ducks, geese and other birds, and if they are really hungry they may eat a mouse.

If they have a particularly good day, they will go for something larger.  They will, if they can, hunt deer, elk or mountain goats.   Their favorite meal is moose, but they are not always successful in catching one, and so their team up and usually will find one that is sick or weak.  This makes the catch easier, and because of a moose's hoofs, which can seriously hurt a wolf, they are very cautious when hunting them.

Wolves don't kill just for the fun of it!

When they are successful in their catch, they can consume almost all of it, and if not, quite often come back later to eat the rest.

So why are some people so afraid of the Wolf?

Wolves are often misunderstood.  Various reasons are given by humans why they don't like them.  Anything from 'they are sneaky', they 'kill other animals' and they are even said to 'attack people'!

Some hunters have even claim that wolves kill the animals that should be rightfully theirs to kill!!!

Today there are very few wolves left to do any serious harm to anything, and statistics say that there are probably fewer than 1,000 wolves left alive today in the United States, outside of Alaska!

So I ask you...

Who is The Big Bad Wolf anyway?
