Idaho
Wolves

Our friends at the Wolf Education and Research
Center informed me that Senator Kempthorne (Idaho) is presently reauthorizing the
Endangered Species Act. They are encouraging an addendum to the Act which will address the
legality of the reintroduced wolves in Yellowstone and central Idaho. They are encouraging
concerns individuals to write to Senator Kempthorne and express their support. Senator
Kemphorne's e-mail address can be found on numerous websites, including those of the World
of Lady Wolf and also Ralph Maughan's Wolf Report...
Some experts have expressed concern that there might be some acceptance of a watered-down
ESA in trade-off for protecting the wolves. We should support a strong ESA that takes care
of this problem...
There is also concern that our current focus be maintained -- an all out effort to get the
American Farm Bureau to backoff their lawsuit...
There are also likely to be other potential fixes to this problem that are not yet on the
table. We need to track all these fixes and get behind the most effective one...

Dear Sisters,
Senator Dirk Kempthorne (R) ID has publicly opposed the wolf reintroduction project and it
is highly unlikely he will be of help to these wolves. If anything, it is our opinion he
would likely weaken or undermine protection for all wolves if his Endangered Species Act
revisions and amendments became law. Please contact the sisters of the wolf and ask them
to maintain the focus on
the American Farm Bureau. We cannot afford to put the wolves at higher risk of losing
their protection by aligning ourselves with known wolf opponents.
